Infogrames has high hopes for Alone in the DarkInfogrames Entertainment, parent company of the video game publisher and developer, has it's financial security riding on the companies new title Alone in the Dark. The title is set release June 20 of this year on all the major consoles.

What we call "Atari" has seen many owners since it's conception in 1972, and has been owned my many companies, been split and been reborn into different companies. The entire history of Atari is somewhat confusing, having been mutilated so many times that a clear identity cannot be established. But the future of Atari is now in jeopardy since current parent company Infogrames Entertainment's financial troubles seem to be increasing.

It started in 2002 when the company reported to have a loss of $67 million, then again in 2003 with losses of $87 million, then yet again in 2006 when they reported net losses of $201 million. From 1999 to 2006 they accumulated a debt of $784 million dollars. In 2006-2007 the losses went to $70 million.

In an attempt to save themselves, and the legacy of Atari which they ultimately carry, they closed their studio Legend Entertainment which they bought in 1999, and in 2006 they sold Paradigm Entertainment to THQ and Reflections Interactive to Ubisoft. The saga continues when they sell the rights to games like the Civilization franchise in 2004 to Take Two, and in 2006 the rights to Stuntman to THQ and Timeshift to Saber Interactive.

Last Friday, Infogrames CEO David Gardner told Reuters that they are hoping to see a financial turnaround with the remake of an old Atari title, Alone in the Dark, which hits the market this June 20. The survival-horror franchise continues with the main protagonist Edward Carnby who is tasked to get to the bottom of supernatural activity in Centural Park in New York City that is causing touble in the city.

Gardner bases his faith on the fan base for the game, which hasn't seen a title since 2001. He even predicts a sale of 2 or 3 million copies. The game is developed by Eden Games on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and by Hydravision Entertainment on the PlayStation 2 and Wii.
