The new ground breaking edition to the Grand Theft Auto franchise earned as much as $500 million dollars in the first week, thats $10 million more than the record previously held by Halo 3.
The new installment of the controversial video game by Rockstar Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of Take 2 Interactive, held true to speculation of its initial success. The series has seen troubled times, since the video game sex scene conflict in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which lead to the game to receive an adult only rating before Rockstar could re-release the game with a fix.
The game earned a record breaking $310 Million on launch day, twice that of what Halo 3 on its launch day back in 2007. It sold 3.6 million copies on that day, and a total of 6 million on launch week.
It earned a fantastic rating throughout the web, like a perfect score on GameSpot, to a 5 out of 5 on GameSpy, and an A+ from Electronic Gaming Monthly.
Just like the predictions made before this record breaking release, the game did beat all others -- not only video games, but it also beat sales records in many other forms of media like Movies and Music.
